Fed: GM canola much worse than US corn shipment: activists

BRISBANE, Jan 10 AAP - Genetically-modified (GM) food crops could be growing in Australiaby winter, activists warned today as controversy continued over the country's first importof GM maize.
Two applications submitted by multinational companies Monsanto and Bayer are beforefederal regulators to grow herbicide-resistant canola.
Only two GM crops, cotton and carnations, are allowed to be grown commercially in Australia.
If approved, the GM canola - a winter crop used mainly in oil and butter - could beplanted as early as this year.
